Thailand occupies approximately 198,000 square miles on the
Indochinese and Malaysian peninsulas of South East Asia and is
bordered by Myanmar to the west, Laos to the north, Cambodia to the
east and Malaysia to the south.
Much of the population of 61 million is engaged in agriculture or
related industries, however over the past twenty years Thailand has
actively promoted foreign investment and has attracted a wide range
of industries including automobile assembly, semiconductor
manufacturing, textiles and many others.
The capital city, Bangkok, is both the political and business
centre of the country. The government is a constitutional
monarchy, with the King as head of state. Thailand is unique
in the region as being the only country never to have been colonised
by a European power.
